Love

I have a practice of asking myself what I would love. It’s the kind of question that, at first, seems embarrassing or self-indulgent—and it’s not. Putting an idea out into the world, verbally or in writing, not only holds us accountable but also makes it clear what we want. If we know what we love and what we would love in the future, it is perhaps the greatest clarity imaginable. And from clarity, we can inspire, partner, lead, be, or whatever is needed of us in every single moment.

Tracey Emin’s series of text-based neon works considers love from a variety of aspects—erotic to romantic to reverent. Her scripted style, direct statements, and emotional provocations are a search for the rewards and authenticity of all types of love. The underlying idea: love matters.
