I first met Kevin Daum when he interviewed me for a YPO podcast series called 10 Minute Tips From the Top. He subsequently wrote an article about me for Inc. magazine titled “This Art Museum CEO Curates Great Business Lessons”, and it changed the way I thought about myself.
In the article, Kevin identified four things about my leadership: telling stories, creating interactive experiences, allowing space for uncertainty, and doing things out of the ordinary. He recognized qualities in the way I worked that I hadn’t necessarily identified in myself. We have stayed in touch over the years, and he has shared incredible wisdom with me, including something he learned from the futurist Watts Wacker: “Don’t fix the present. Create the future.” I have returned to that advice many times.
Kevin and Verne Harnish have just released Super Players: How the Best Transform Their Career and Company with High-Impact Habits, an updated take on their work exploring twelve high-impact habits that help people contribute more meaningfully to their organizations. I love that the qualities Kevin identified in my leadership years ago connect to the habits he is now writing about.
Anyone who follows me knows that I live by ritual and celebrate habit. I believe that what we choose to do repeatedly shapes who we become and what we are able to accomplish. I highly recommend this book!
