Amy Ellingson sent me this book, and I love receiving books from artists. It feels like an invitation to understand something more about what they are thinking about, looking at, and in this case, what it actually means to make their work.
On Painting and the Nature of Work follows a year in Amy’s life as she prepared for a major exhibition. She writes about painting alongside time, attention, family, mortality, and all the things that surround a creative practice. We most often encounter an artwork after the decisions have been made and the work is complete. I love the opportunity to spend time with everything that came before.
