There are very few places where you can feel the intention behind what is being made.
Chafinity Tea House, newly opened at The Camp, is one of them.
My introduction to Chafinity came through my study of the Way of Tea with its co-founder, Kentaro Chiba. What he brings is not simply knowledge, but a way of being—one that centers attention, presence, and care in even the smallest gesture. That philosophy is embedded in this space.
This is not a casual tea stop. It is an authentic Japanese tea house, thoughtfully realized, where every element—from the preparation to the presentation—reflects a deep respect for tradition. The matcha is extraordinary. Precise, balanced, and alive in a way that is difficult to describe unless you’ve experienced it.
It is also the only matcha I drink.
To have a place like this here, in Costa Mesa, feels both rare and meaningful. A reminder that ritual can exist within the everyday—and that something as simple as tea can offer a moment of clarity, if we allow it.
