Many years ago when I went to my first Young Presidents' Organization forum preparatory meeting, the first two questions were: What is the one quality you most require in other people (mine was loyalty), and what is the one quality that makes a relationship with someone else impossible (mine was insecurity)? | had never been asked questions like these before, and I now realize the impact they have had on my ability to not only know what l value but also be vulnerable and show up fully in conversation.
Lynda Benglis, many years ago, posed for, purchased, and placed a provocative advertisement in the art magazine Artforum to announce her solo exhibition. The confidence with which she approached her own beauty, sensuality, and sexuality continues to be found in the forms she creates and materials she uses. She celebrates the organic nature of our bodies, flesh, fluids, and all while knowing that, oftentimes, our most vulnerable moments are our most rewarding ones.
