I am a longtime collaborator, fan, and friend of Glenn and Amanda Fuhrman, and I have had many opportunities to experience firsthand their commitment to artists and to pursuing innovative ideas.
One of those opportunities was Funny. an exhibition I curated at The FLAG Art Foundation, which brought together iconic works from the Fuhrman Family Collection alongside outside loans. The exhibition explored humor in contemporary art, something I have always been interested in, and the collection gave me an extraordinary place from which to begin.
Collecting Contemporaries: The Fuhrman Collection documents decades of collecting and sustained support of artists. Glenn and Amanda collect artists in depth, following their work over time and building a collection that reflects long relationships rather than individual moments. They know how proximity to artists enriches a life.
The book allows you to see what that kind of commitment looks like over time. Artists reappear, bodies of work develop, and ideas connect across generations. It is a beautiful record of what Glenn and Amanda have built and of the artists they have believed in along the way.
