London and Mexico City
The two secrets to longevity: close, personal relationships and curiosity! Here I am sharing a little bit about my husband’s journey into an interest in Contemporary Art. JP has traveled around the world looking at art with me, which may sound super fun for those of you who love Art, but for someone who didn’t actually love art, it’s kind of a new thing. So, it’s really interesting to see what works of art have spoken to him. The first thing was the Cy Twombly Gallery at the Tate Modern in London. When we were there, he first said to me, “You know I could do that.” And of course we went back back-and-forth a little bit. I said, “No. You could not do that.” And he said, “I could go to Home Depot and buy some red paint and some wood and I could do that.” So that’s where it started. Then, we were in Mexico City and we went to see a Francis Alÿs exhibition with video screens, installed all over the gallery with kids playing sports all over the world. Some were structured and known like Soccer, others consisted of rolling a huge tire repeatedly down a hill. The exhibition really spoke about the commonality that people can find within sport. And JP was moved. Kind of teary actually. And that was the first time that he started to get a sense that maybe there were something that he was interested in about art.
