I am drawn to books written late in someone’s life about what they have learned. David Gentleman is in his nineties and has spent his life drawing, painting, engraving, designing, looking, and making. Lessons for Young Artists gathers what more than ninety years of doing has taught him.
The title says young artists, and the lessons are much larger than that. Pay attention. Keep working. Learn from mistakes. Notice the world. Continue. Perhaps purpose is less something we find than something we practice. I enjoyed this book immensely!
