I’ve been a fan of Carla Fernández for years. Her clothes aren’t just something you put on—they’re something you feel and when I wear her clothes I feel fantastic, fashion forward and truly chic! . I love that her creations are rooted in Mexican traditions and also feel completely contemporary and architectural. Every piece tells a story, and you can sense the care, the commitment, and the philosophy in every one.
Carla isn’t just a designer—she’s a movement. Her manifesto says it all:
“The future is handmade.”
That one phrase captures so much of what makes her work powerful. She collaborates with Indigenous artisans across Mexico, helping preserve and uplift centuries-old textile techniques–backstrap weaving, natural dyeing, hand embroidery–while giving them new life through bold, sculptural forms. Her silhouettes—ponchos, coats, jumpsuits (like the one I am wearing)—are structural and wearable.
There’s a punk spirit in what she does—it’s political, it’s feminist, it’s beautifully defiant. And yet the vibe is calm, confident, and deeply human. Wearing her work feels like carrying something forward. It’s beautiful, yes and it’s also principled, intentional, alive.
What we wear is one of the most immediate ways to live with art. Dressing artfully isn’t about labels or trends—it’s about meaning, expression, and honoring the people and processes behind what we bring into our lives. Carla’s work reminds me that clothing can be a kind of daily ritual. A way of showing up—truthfully, thoughtfully, artfully.
