Peter Doig: House of Music

The Peter Doig show at the Serpentine reinvigorated my belief in exhibition making! A bold statement I know. Music has always been a key influence in Peter‘s work and in this exhibition, it holds almost equal weight to the emphasis placed on the paintings. Throughout the run of the exhibition, Peter invited friends and musicians, and some people who are both to DJ. Speakers were strategically placed around the exhibition like sculpture and the sound accompanied the viewers’ experience of the paintings. Music infiltrated the exhibition experience in an incredibly nuanced and expensive way. I vividly remember the first time I ever saw that Peter Doig painting—three decades ago—and this experience mirrored the evocation of that time.
