Júmex Museum, Mexico City

About Art and my husband, Part II

Júmex Museum, Mexico City

On a trip to Mexico City, my husband and I attended a Lari Pittman exhibition at the Júmex Museum, which is a not to be missed visit every time we go to this city that we love! Included was an ornate, Baroque sort of painting that included text. One of the phrases among many included in the long, large painting was “a deep funky funk.” JP noticed, remembered, and returns to the idea that that image elicited in him a lot. He will ask: “Are you in a funky funk?” Or, offer, “I’m in a funky funk.” The painting provided a way to give words to a complicated emotion and so JP found a new and generous and kindly effective way to bring art into our daily life—all because of that Lari Pittman painting.
